Frequently Asked Questions About Therapy

Are you open to counseling new clients?

Yes! Every person has a story to tell or issue to explore. I feel that for you to be able to build good relationships in your life, you need to be able to spend a little time each week building a good relationship with yourself. I'm happy to work with you to review your life and empower you to decide on how you want to grow from where you are.

How much do you charge?

I work with a per session fee of $100. Your counseling session will usually last approximately 50 minutes and will cover your most pressing issue.

What hours are you available?

I plan appointments based on my current commitments to others, and will work with you to find a regular time we can meet. This meeting time includes limited evening and Saturday appointments if you are unable to attend during my regular weekday hours.

Do you accept health insurance?

No, but I can provide a "superbill" that you may submit to your insurance company.

Can you prescribe anti-depressants and other medicines?

No, my practice is limited to talk therapies. However, in cases of demonstrated need, I can provide referrals to medical doctors who can help.

What's the best way to contact you?

I respond to email, phone messages and text messages, generally on the same day. You can also go to the Contact Lesley Page on this site and send me a note. I'll be looking forward to hearing from you.

What if I'm having an anxiety attack? Should I call you?

Positively! I try to reconnect with everyone who calls and I will make every effort to contact you if you are in immediate need. If you are in an emotional emergency, please call 911. Your safety is of paramount importance!

Am I obligated to come to counseling for any specific number of sessions?

Your life's successes cannot be measured in prescriptive quantities, and neither should therapy sessions. However, it's a good idea to allow for at least 12 to 20 sessions to ensure positive growth.

What is Guided Imagery?

Guided imagery is a safe and gentle, yet powerful practice of visualization that allows you to tap into the healing resources of your own mind and create images of success, health, and happiness.

What is Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) all about?

I like to say that therapy is about improving your relationships with not only others but with yourself. MFT is one area of focus where we can work together to improve those relationships closest to you.

What happens on the first visit?

On your first visit I will welcome you with the interest of someone who cares and would appreciate knowing more about you. I will ask you to fill in a short questionnaire that wil help reveal why you are seeking therapy and give a few details of your personal history. Then we will chat for about an hour where I will ask you a lot of questions to help me better understand the issues you would like to address and the areas of your life you'd like to improve. At this time, I'll also explain the process of therapy, details of my policies and confidentiality items.

What can I expect in my sessions?

You can expect a calm, warm, safe and non-judgmental environment in which to express and explore your unique issues and honest answers to any questions or concerns you may have.

I'm not sure I need therapy. How can I tell if I should be calling on you?

It is a sign of strength to seek therapy when you have things on your mind. I truly believe that everyone can benefit from therapy, but good indicators of immediate need include:

more than a week of feeling sad

feeling anxious or nervous for no discernible reason

loss of interest in things you normally enjoy

not sleeping well or over-sleeping

relationships are problematic without you knowing why

What makes you different from all the other counselors out there?

Every counselor is unique in his or her approach to problem solving and working with clients. For me, I think it is vital that you feel comfortable and connected to your therapist. This is why I offer a complimentary phone or in-person initial consulation. Together, we are working with a need for trust, openness and confidence. You and I need to ensure that we can achieve this relationship.
